When NBC News airs the third Republican debate from Miami on Wednesday, it will be a slimmed-down field.
Former New Jersey Governor Chris Christie, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, former UN Ambassador Nikki Haley, Vivek Ramaswamy and Senator Tim Scott (R-DC) accepted the award.
The Republican National Committee has tightened the eligibility criteria. Candidates need at least 70,000 campaign donors and 4% support in at least two national polls, either one statewide poll or two early state polls.
Candidates also had to sign a loyalty pledge to support the eventual nominee, which prevented front-runner Donald Trump from qualifying. However, the former president has indicated that he plans to skip all debates and counter-plan this week’s debate with a rally in South Florida.
NBC News will host the debate from the Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts of Miami-Dade County, which will air on the network from 8 to 10 p.m. ET and stream on NBC News Now. Other partners include the Salem Radio Network, the Republican Jewish Coalition and Rumble. NBC News’ Lester Holt and Kirsten Welker will co-host with Salem’s Hugh Hewitt.
Seven candidates participated in the final GOP debate held in September at the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library in Simi Valley, California. North Dakota Gov. Doug Burgum failed to qualify and former Vice President Mike Pence dropped out of the race last month.
