The BBC has launched an emergency radio service for Gaza.
BBC News Arabic will go live with the channel from Friday, broadcasting one program a day on medium wave at 15:00 GMT (7:00 am PT), before the following week at 5:00 am. GMT (10:00 p.m. PT) another shipment is added.
The emergency call centre, produced from London and Cairo, will “provide listeners in Gaza with the latest information and developments, as well as security advice on where to access shelter, food and water supplies,” the BBC said.
“BBC News Arabic is well placed to provide this essential service to the people of Gaza at a time of great need,” said BBC World Service Director Liliane Landor. “Their expertise and knowledge of the region, as well as the BBC’s reputation as the most trusted news provider, will ensure we can reach citizens in Gaza with the information they need.”
The BBC has previously set up emergency services in Ukraine and Sudan, along with a similar service in Gaza during the previous conflict a decade ago.
Although communications have largely returned in recent days, Deadline reported over the weekend that international television networks and news channels failed to provide live reporting or video updates from Gaza as Israel intensified its military campaign against Gaza. Palestinian territory.
The conflict is now entering its fourth week – triggered by the Hamas-led massacre on October 7, in which around 1,400 civilians in Israel were killed and 200 kidnapped. Thousands of Palestinians have since been killed in retaliatory fire.
