Already well known and widely used in France, Vinted is clearly not the first choice that comes to mind when it comes to purchasing luxury goods. The reason: the fear of coming across counterfeit products on the largest European online platform dedicated to the resale of used clothing between private individuals (80 million users worldwide!). But if this marketplace founded in Lithuania in 2008 wants to realize its ambition of making second-hand goods the first choice worldwide, it must equip itself with a dedicated service against this type of scam. It’s finally been done since it finally launched its Vinted verification service on October 16, 2023.

Why use Vinted’s new verification service?
As the name suggests, this service allows items to be checked by professionals. These are then sent by sellers to the platform’s verification center where experts verify their authenticity.
The price of this new Vinted verification service is quite convenient: free for sellers, and €10 for buyers (remember that we are talking about luxury items, rarely sold under €100 on the platform).
To find out which items are eligible for Vinted’s verification service, simply look for listings that feature a diamond badge. This means that we will have, at the time of payment, the possibility of using it or not.
As for sellers, it has long been the case that when creating an ad for a luxury item from well-known brands, the platform may ask you to prove its authenticity, at least with a photo of the serial number. Otherwise, the advert remains hidden from other users. But it was a weak protection, easy for counterfeiters to circumvent. This new service therefore guarantees greater safety for everyone.

Who are the people who verify the authenticity of the luxury pieces sold on Vinted?
The Vinted team of verification experts brings together more than five decades of experience and knowledge of thousands of brands, the platform reports in a press release:
“Following the acquisition of Germany-based luxury resale platform Rebelle last year, the two teams have combined their expertise to provide Vinted members with Rebelle’s expertise in item verification. The team of experts carefully examines eligible items purchased on Vinted at their verification center in Hamburg. »
The item verification service is currently available in France, Italy, Germany, Belgium and the Netherlands. At the moment, hundreds of designer brands, such as Chanel, Dior, Hermès, Saint Laurent, Bottega Veneta, Celine and Jacquemus, but also streetwear brands such as Adidas and New Balance, are already eligible for the service, and others will gradually be added. Adam Jay, CEO of Vinted Marketplace, is pleased:
“We know that authenticity and trust are key in the second-hand online shopping market and believe they should be accessible to everyone. That’s why we’ve worked to offer a design parts testing service that is reliable and convenient. Since the creation of Vinted 15 years ago, our commitment has always been to make second-hand fashion the first choice. This new service represents an important step: it offers our community maximum trust. »
