Pavel Durov is one of the most mysterious characters on the Russian Internet. He became popular after he and his brother founded the VKontakte social network. Initially, users could only register after inviting previously registered participants, but soon access to the network became free. Within a year the site became the third most popular site on the internet.

Pavel later sold the social network, but in 2013 he launched the Telegram messaging app, which is used by more than 800 million users today.
