What do we know about the disappearance of Lina, 15 years old, in the Lower Rhine

On Saturday 23 September, the teenager was going to the station to meet her boyfriend in Strasbourg, but never got on the train. The Strasbourg Public Prosecutor’s Office has opened a judicial investigation “The charges of kidnapping or kidnapping last more than seven days “.

Searches have continued for ten days to find the traces of Lina, 15 years old, who disappeared on Saturday 23 September while on her way to Strasbourg to meet her boyfriend.

The context of the case

On September 23, 2023, Lina, 15, left her home in Plaine, Bas-Rhin, to go to Saint-Blaise-la-Roche station. She intends to take a train to Strasbourg, to join her boyfriend. To do this, she must take the D350. It is a 3 km route, which she knows well. He disappeared and has been searched for ever since.

The day of his disappearance

On the morning of September 23, the atmosphere was light, according to the testimony of Lina’s mother. The young woman is preparing to meet her boyfriend for a busy day: they have to eat at the restaurant, go shopping, then she will return in the evening. The mother tells it into the microphone From seven to eight, the enthusiasm of the daughter, who leaves the father’s house around 11.

She knows the route that connects her to the station in just 30 minutes: initially on foot along the D350, which eventually allows her to join a cycle path. However, she will not get on the midday train, which was supposed to take her to Strasbourg. Her boyfriend, not seeing her arrive, tries to contact her. Without a response from her, he called Lina’s mother, who searched her house, went to the station and ended up raising the alarm around 2pm.

The girl is not known as a runaway. The military therefore immediately started looking for him, while investigations are underway to ” disturbing disappearance ” is open. It is the Strasbourg research section that is dealing with it, together with the Lower Rhine gendarmerie group.

The searches remain fruitless

In the following days the entire surrounding area was inspected. A helicopter equipped with thermal cameras, drones and a dog brigade was sent to the site in vain.

While the public prosecutor of Saverne confirms that the young woman never boarded the train thanks to the station’s surveillance cameras, a call to testify is launched and a first round-up of citizens is organized on Monday 25 September. A few days later, water bodies in the area were surveyed.

The first tangible elements

Two witnesses say they saw the young woman between 11.15 and 11.30 while she was going to the station. One would have seen him on foot, the other in a gray or dark blue Clio. The prosecutor also confirmed that her phone stopped ringing at 11.22am on the day of her disappearance. Since then there has been no movement on her bank account, nor any trace on the road that suggests a road accident of which she was the victim.

Investigators also repeatedly searched the home of a music teacher living in Plaine. The professor’s cars were seized for DNA testing, the results of which are not yet known. The latter was not placed in custody, but simply interrogated by the gendarmes. At the moment there is no evidence linking him to Lina’s disappearance. A total of six vehicles matching the description were searched, with no results.

The Saverne prosecutor’s office withdraws from the investigation

On 1 October the Saverne Public Prosecutor’s Office, which had until then been competent, closed the case in favor of the Strasbourg Public Prosecutor’s Office, which opened a judicial investigation against “The charges of kidnapping or kidnapping last more than seven days “. Two investigating judges from Strasbourg will now direct the investigation and Lina’s disappearance takes on a criminal dimension.

The searches are focusing on the car spotted. According to the testimonies collected, he was proceeding in the opposite direction from the station. The witness claims that the teenager did not seem worried, he would have greeted him from the window, and was sitting next to a ” male individual “. Lina may therefore have gotten into the car of someone she knew.

In a press release, the Strasbourg prosecutor’s office said that it is preparing ” long-term investigations. At the moment no charges have been brought against anyone, no path has been excluded or favored “.
