On May 20, 1973, Jacob Davis and Levi Strauss received a patent to create overalls for the working class and changed the world. Literally. For more than a century and a half, denim has managed to visit various roles and roles.
Once upon a time, a staple of the display cowboy was the uniform of farmers and miners and, of course, the hippie’s favorite. And in the USSR in the 80s, good jeans became an unspoken sign of financial well-being. But first things first. Today we talk about the legendary “birthday boy” and show how and who wears jeans in movies.
The cult wardrobe item debuted in 1920 when the movie Indomitable, starring Tom Mix, was released on the big screens. However, popularity and universal love came almost two decades later thanks to western Stagecoach played by little-known actor John Wayne. True, the situation of the little-known very quickly gave way to its opposite. It instantly gained unprecedented popularity and at the same time glorified Levi’s 501 jeans. After the release of Stagecoach, denim became the main object of desire for all (and not only) young people.

As we said before, denim in different eras symbolized radically opposite things. In 1953, the world saw the picture “Wild” with Marlon Brando, and instantly jeans were re-educated as an integral attribute of rebels and hooligans. And the image of the actor – in a white T-shirt, leather jackets and classic blue jeans – seems to be quoted by everyone.

A year later, Rebel Without a Cause was released, starring James Dean. Of course he also wore jeans, but not Levi’s, Lee Rider’s 101. By the way, they wanted to ban it in schools because jeans were associated with crime. But as we already know, nothing came of it. Denim has continued to conquer the world and continues to do so.

The next big leap in history was when Elvis Presley appeared in the movie Prison Trick in black jeans with white seams. Immediately after that, Levi’s released a special collection dedicated to the singer. And in the next decade, denim finally came to the women’s wardrobe. One of the first to wear jeans was movie star Marilyn Monroe. She shone in the famous image – high-waisted blue jeans and a floral-print shirt – in the movie “The river does not flow back.”

And if you’ve seen the movie “Breakfast at Tiffany’s,” you probably remember the scene where Audrey Hepburn sang the song Moom River. So if you look closely, you can see him singing in navy blue jeans.
The story of the universal wardrobe item does not end there. In the 1970s, denim was literally monopolized by hippies who wore flared models embroidered with beads. After that, punk rockers turned into jeans, and then others. They forever lost the status of a working uniform and turned into a real trend that caught the cinema.

“Dirty Dance”, “Back to the Future”, “Grease”, “Friends”, “Beautiful Woman” – in all these cult films from time to time denim vibrates. He did not bypass the domestic cinema. Remember at least the films “Courier” and “Moscow does not believe in tears.” And also “Sister” and “Intergirl”. Of course, denim on the screen no longer surprises anyone. But we still offer a closer look at iconic images that have entered the history of fashion and cinema.

Now jeans are truly everywhere – things made from this material have managed to take over the catwalk (just a few days ago we saw gorgeous jeans embroidered with stones and sequins in the Gucci cruise collection), the streets and the hearts of fashion influencers. The latter, by the way, easily dilute the classic look with them, or, conversely, focus on streetwear, wearing both to the banquet and to the world. On the occasion of denim’s birthday, we invite you to shop and buy current models. We have prepared a selection where you will find current options such as movie stars.
