8 Iconic Cher Kim Kardashian, J. Lo, and Zendaya Seems To Be Recurring Years Later

Pop diva, style icon and role model. This, of course, is about Cher, who turns 76 today. Yes, we have a hard time believing this figure. And yes, even those who have just turned 50 can envy him.

For almost half a century, Cher has surprised and shocked (literally) not only her music, but also her impeccable style. In the 1970s and 80s, the singer was a true trendsetter – she was not afraid to experiment and accepted even the most revealing images. “Nude” dresses and open tops are now the norm on red carpets, but 50 years ago the situation was radically different. Cher’s debut caused a sensation, which was later discussed for more than a day.

No wonder her style continues to be an endless source of inspiration for today’s modern girls. Cher’s iconic dresses and costumes have been cited at various times by Kim Kardashian, Paris Hilton, Zendaya, and even J. Lo. In our material, we say and show which images of the singer received a new reading.

Kim Kardashian

It seems that the main diva of the new millennium was particularly impressed by the style of the legendary singer. Or maybe it’s not just him, he’s of Armenian origin. How else to explain all these cases when Kim completely copied Cher’s footage? We counted nine similar outlets and we will tell you about the brightest ones.

Cher at the Met Gala, 1974

In 1974, Cher appeared on the first Met Gala red carpet in a sheer dress embroidered with rhinestones and feathers. This image was created for her by fashion designer Bob Mackie. That year, the event’s timing coincided with the opening of the “Romantic and Glamorous Hollywood Design” exhibition, and the singer’s image was a 100% hit on the subject. In 2015, Kim Kardashian appeared at the Met Gala in a very similar dress designed for her by Peter Dundas from Roberto Cavalli.

Cher at the Grammy Awards, 1974

In the 1970s, Cher’s popularity grew at a dizzying pace. Their songs topped the music charts, their movie roles brought status awards, and their red carpet appearances were considered a separate art form. One of the iconic images was at the Grammys. In 1974, the singer appeared in a white top with a butterfly embroidered with sequins (by the way, the same element was in Cher’s hairstyle) and a translucent cape. Almost forty years later, this image was repeated by Kim Kardashian.

Cher at the Oscars, 1988

In 2017, Kim Kardashian was once again inspired by Cher’s style, appearing at a Halloween party in a replica of the singer’s dress for the 60th Academy Awards. That evening, she was accompanied by her friend Jonathan Cheban, dressed as Sonny Bono.

Paris Hilton

Remember the iconic silver dress Paris Hilton wore to her 21st birthday party? This image was quoted over a decade later by Kendall Jenner, Dua Lipa, and Kim Kardashian. However, few people know that Cher was the first to wear such a dress in the 1980s.

Sara Sampaio

Kim wasn’t the only one referring to Cher’s translucent Met Gala gown in 1974. In 2018, Victoria’s Secret Angel Sara Sampaio attended the Cannes Film Festival in a Ralph and Russo dress very reminiscent of what Cher wore to the Costume Institute ball.

Emily Ratajkowski

In 1975, Cher appeared at the Rock Music Awards in a sparkly low-cut pantsuit and a crossover top. This image is considered one of the most quoted to date. For example, in 2019 model Emily Ratajkowski was inspired by Cher’s costume. She appeared on the Met Gala red carpet in a sheer sequined blouse, very reminiscent of the outfit the singer wore almost half a century ago. The model completed the image with an interesting detail in the form of wings on the ears.

Jennifer Lopez

And here’s another reference to Cher at the Met Gala 2019. At the Costume Institute Ball, J. Lo echoed the singer’s iconic silver hairstyle. Cher wore a wig decorated with rhinestones several times, both on the red carpet and at performances.

zendaya

Last year, Zendaya was almost the most talked about person at the Oscars. And it’s not even that the film with her participation got the coveted statuette. The actress appeared on the red carpet of the most honored movie award in a bright yellow Valentino dress with a bra and train, clearly inspired by the image of Cher. In the early 1970s, the singer chose a similar outfit for The Comedy Hour with Sonny and Cher.
