” Yes, the girls play football, we didn’t tell you “, Just Shani intoned in 2019, signing himself with his song” Women’s selection the unofficial anthem of the previous FIFA Women’s World Cup held in France. For the 2023 edition, the French rapper returns with a new sound, ” Joga Bonito “, Very Brazilian.
“Joga Bonito” by Juste Shani, the anthem of the 2023 Women’s World Cup

The Portuguese expression good yoga could be translated as ” this wonderful game and was made especially popular by Brazilian player Edson Arantes do Nascimento, says Pele. This made the formula synonymous with football through the title of his autobiography published in 1977, My life and this wonderful game. Juste Shani defines it more broadly as a state of mind: Regardless of gender or origin, Joga Bonito is all about playing with pride, respect and never leaving your team! »
Released on July 21, 2023, just in time to mark the football competition taking place from July 20 to August 20 in Australia and New Zealand, the title ” Joga Bonito is accompanied by a clip in which Juste Shani shares the spotlight with tough footballers and bikers, to embody team spirit and female solidarity, beyond the round ball.
As the French women’s soccer team play Australia in the quarter-finals this Saturday 12th August 2023, we can therefore support them while having fun” Joga Bonito by Just Shani. And let’s hope the title resonates again if the Blues reach the final on August 20th.
Interview with Juste Shani, author of the anthem of the Women’s World Cup
To miss. In 2019, how and why did you write “Female Selection”?
Shani only. True story : I wrote “ Women’s selection because my stepfather insisted that I do a song about the Women’s World Cup. I have been passionate about football since I was little and in 2019 I had been making music for a year. My father-in-law kept telling me You are a rapper and you play football. Why don’t you make a song about the female CDM? I didn’t like it very much at first, because I didn’t just want to do a Vegedream [auteur du titre « Ramenez la coupe à la maison », hymne officieux de la Coupe du Monde masculine de football 2018]. But she insisted so much that one day I found myself in the studio and told my producer Oh, by the way, maybe we could make some noise in the world… He spoke to him directly and we got to work! He on the instrument and I on the writing. And the magic worked within days.

What did this title change for your career at the time?
This title suddenly gave me great exposure for a fledgling artist. I have appeared quite a lot in the press (including to miss). I federated a good portion of my community on networks at the time. It also allowed me to do many concerts and to make collaborations, but in reality the work had just begun!
Four years later, you are releasing a new title for the 2023 Women’s World Cup. Where are you currently in your art project?
In the last four years, despite the good visibility, my project has suffered from bad contracts with unreliable labels. Also, I was working at a startup in a responsible position, which left me little time for my music. But, early 2023 I quit my job and producers! Now I’m self-producing. I remain surrounded by a team but I am the one who finances and who decides for the project. I’m super proud of it. ” Joga Bonito » is my second self-produced title (after « Hanna Montana released in June).

What were the inspirations for this new title?
I was inspired by the culture of the beautiful game inherited mainly from Brazil (literally ” good yoga ”) but whose impact is international. I wanted to highlight talented women in sports where they are not expected: in the clip we can admire football players but also motorcyclists. The spirit of the song is to federate the love of sports and teamwork, regardless of genre or origin.
What is your personal relationship with football?
I’ve loved playing soccer since I was little, but I never really got into it! I still played for 5 years with the Dauphine team and I was a player for several seasons at ACP 15 (Paris) but hey I’m less and less diligent in training [rires]. My team sees me more when I come to shoot a clip than when I come to play.
How do you think football and rap can be tools for women’s empowerment?
The empowerment of women implies that sooner or later they will occupy as much space as men (on the street, at work, in sport…!) because there is no reason for us to shrink! Football and rap are precisely environments from which women have long been excluded and still are.. Today we just want to do what makes us vibrate without being prevented from doing it because of our gender. Furthermore, rap has the advantage of being a means of expression, so in addition to occupying space, with rap I send messages in favor of this emancipation.
What are your future musical projects?
I will be in concert at the Fête de L’Huma on September 15th (in the Paris region). And by the end of the year, she’ll be featuring a new clipped concept titled ” White paper to celebrate my emancipation in music!
