A getaway to Italy, an exotic trip to Japan or a simple tour of the French regions… Traveling allows you to get away from everyday life for a few days to rest and come back better. But how important is it for our well-being? Opodo, the online travel agency, has just released a study on the matter, and the travel therapy seems to have positive effects on the mental health of individuals…

Numbers that speak for themselves
The Opodo survey was conducted with 10,000 attendees. A significant number that allowed the travel agency to identify key figures on the importance of travel therapy. According to the results, 96% of French people say that travel is a real source of well-being. But what do they love to do when they’re on vacation? Well, their favorite activities might surprise you since they say they love:
- Rest (45%).
- Tourist visits (41%).
They are much less (18%) who like to have an adventure or play sports. And even less listening to music or meeting new people (15 and 14%). Artistic activities, for their part, are clearly not the priority of travelers as only 4% practice them. However, 13% of them like reading.
And our European neighbors?
The Portuguese and Italians are two nationalities who particularly enjoy traveling to improve their mental health. They are also 98% to say it against 97% of Spaniards. Swedes are 95% and if Germans are at the bottom of this ranking, they still reach 93%. The latter therefore give the Frenchman 4th place.
