It was an accident that caused the 50/50 collective to implode. Tuesday 23 May, the film producer Juliette Favreul-Renaud, former head of the feminist association, was acquitted by the Paris court. She was accused of sexually assaulting the actress Nadege Beausson-Diagne during an evening in connection with the collective.
The facts date back to 11 March 2022. The complainant accused the producer of having passed a hand on her thigh “until i touch her sex” through tights, while intoxicated, during an evening in the Paris apartment of a member of the association.
The day after this evening the actress had filed a complaint against him. No direct witnesses confirmed Nadège Beausson-Diagne’s version of events, but people present during the evening claimed to have seen the actress “in a state of bewilderment”.
The producer denies
The trial, which took place in March, required eight months’ imprisonment against the producer, as well as a duty of care and a ban on contacting the complainant.
For her part, Juliette Favreul admitted that she ran her hand through the actress’ afro hair: ” I had no idea it was postcolonial and offensive. I’ve always had a complex about my hair… I put my hand through her hair… and that was it ».
But she denies sexually assaulting Nadège Beausson-Diagne: “ It ruined my life. I didn’t do anything to her, just put my hand through her hair »he added, specifying that it was “ impossible » that he committed such a gesture towards the complainant since he is not” lesbian ».
The case had detonated the feminist association Le Collectif 50/50, which denounces the glass ceiling for women in the cinema world. Since then the collective has been 100% renewed.
