Money Slave and BDSM: It’s time to dispel the myth of financial domination

While pop culture and the media are filled with stories of women filling their bank accounts with Money Slaves for no consideration, profiles of financial dominatrixes are popping up on the web in hopes of leading a similar life. But is reality as simple as it seems? Money Mistresses (financial lovers) tell.

It seems that the term Money Slave has become a keyword like any other on Twitter. Definitely (in part) because BDSM is a very popular fetish: according to a 2022 study signed by the famous Dèmonia shop and reported by the magazine She, 61.4% of French people indulge in this sexual practice. And obviously it is not limited to the marital bed: on social networks the accounts of professional dominatrixes, and in particular those specialized in financial domination, have flourished at full speed in recent years. The principle? Receiving free money from submissive men who enjoy, in the case of heterosexual intercourse, paying dominatrix women without them having to lift a finger. Because, as Mistress Claire, a part-time prostitute explains, a true dominatrix doesn’t go after her subs, her subs come to her :

Money slaves enjoy buying things from you or giving you money directly. I once simply tweeted that I was going to dinner with my partner and wanted someone to pay for my restaurant. A few minutes later, I received a transfer notification, with no message from the sender. Money slaves are turned on by being completely dominated, there is nothing physical or sexual about it.

Financial dominatrix… but not only

The mega good plan, did you say? If it sounds like this, and Money Slavering is in the collective imagination a way to earn money easily, this widespread idea has been contradicted by all the Money Mistresses we interviewed. According to Hélène*, whose Twitter account dedicated to financial domination has been active since 2019, financial bondage is a rather rare fetish, even if the topic makes noise in the media:

There are actually very few submissives who send money or give gifts without anything in return. Most pay for a service, even if there is no physical contact: nudes, photos of feet… Unfortunately many girls, especially the youngest among them, are unaware of this reality and throw themselves into the lions’ den , believing they are on familiar ground because they have read this or that article. It is not uncommon to come across fake profiles of Money Slaves who promise them Monts et Merveille but who, in the end, don’t pay.

Like Hélène*, Lana Nawa, a dominatrix since 2016, soon realized that men seeking financial domination were quite rare in the sex work market. For this reason, like Domina, you offer services more generally related to BDSM practices:

Since I started, I’ve only dealt with 3 or 4 Money Slaves. Most of my clients are submissive men who follow BDSM practices and want to enter into a relationship with dominant women. Money Slaves are simply one practice among others on the spectrum of BDSM practices. You might think that many men are willing to give money for nothing, but that’s not the case..

Great human qualities and a strong emotional charge

The other point in common between Lana Nawa and Mistress Claire? The taste for BDSM practices and the love for domination, otherwise it would have been impossible for them to continue practicing this activity for all these years. Because being a Domina is above all giving one’s time:

We don’t realize the colossal work behind the Domina status. First, we need to filter the requests, which come in the hundreds. And among the scams, those who fantasize without ever acting and the unbalanced, the sorting takes a long time. So, you have to cultivate your internet presence. And then we must not forget that practicing domination is above all a very cerebral job. It is therefore a question of creating real and lasting bonds with the submissive. These require close attention. Contrary to popular belief, Being Domina is not just about insulting submissives. It is above all maintaining human relationships.

In addition to the time-consuming side of this work in its own right, for Pascale Robitaille, a sexologist and psychotherapist who specializes in working with stigmatized sexual communities, including prostitutes and their clients, Domina’s work mobilizes a wide range of skills and unsuspected human capabilities qualities:

Being Domina means creating and maintaining one’s character and being constantly creative. It requires an erotic intelligence that few people have in them. They do a job emotions, which has real value on a human scale, and this creates an immense emotional charge. It’s far from an easy job: if it were, everyone would be a sex worker. But I honestly know few people who have the back to work in this environment.

A genre story

For this survey, we have only been in contact with Money Mistresses who have talked about their male Money Slaves. So a question came to us: Are there female money slaves? Mistress Claire told us she was only confronted once by a female Money Slave, while Lana Nawa by her only never had a request from women in 7 years of practice. And his opinion on the matter agrees with that of his colleague:

I don’t see why women would pay to be financially dominated. I already am every day. Male domination is everywhere, and even when they pay to be dominated, some men still get to make the decision. In these cases it is a pretend game of domination. As regards the question of money more specifically, the fantasy of the financially submissive man is perhaps a way for them to temporarily relieve themselves of the role society assigns them..

For Pascale Robitaille, if the scarcity of female money slaves can in fact be explained by the financial domination suffered by women in our patriarchal societywe can also mention our gender relationships with money:

Women they have less access to money than men. Also, it’s hard to imagine a mother taking her children’s money to invest in her sex life. In fact, women are not used to spending their money to satisfy their sexual desires. Over 95% of clients in the sex industry are men.
