The Happy Valley star and Peaky Blinders creator brings Shakespeare’s life story to the big screen

Fresh from the ratings, she triumphs in the third and final series happy valleyits star Sarah Lancashire is teamed up Peaky Blinders Creator Steven Knight to bring the story of William Shakespeare’s First Folio to the screen.

The times reports that the pair are in the early stages of creating a series on Shakespeare’s life to mark the 400th anniversary of the publication of his first work.

The series is created by Kudos, who previously made Knight’s series about the origins of elite British troops. SAS villain. The Tireless Knight also wrote the recent BBC dramatization of Charles Dickens Great expectations.

There is no channel yet linked to the bard’s story, but Lancashire, who recently started a production company with her husband, said:

“Via Pictures is delighted to partner with Kudos and the brilliant Steven Knight to bring William Shakespeare’s remarkable story. This is an exciting project about a golden age plagued by plague, puritanism and deadly politics.”

And Knight added:

“It’s a time I love and the team is exceptional. It’s a story that starts in the West Midlands and is very close to my heart.”

Another Shakespeare commemoration project is a three-part documentary telling his story. Dame Helen Mirren and Adrian Lester join the cast to create dramatic scenes that bring to life the politics and other historical events that influenced Shakespeare and his work.

The series is produced by 72Films and has been described as “a documentary thriller” by BBC content officer Charlotte Moore.
