Pete Morgan (The crown) was among the top winners at this year’s Critics’ Circle Theater Awards with his latest production Patriots, taking home the prestigious Michael Billington Award for Best New Play.
patriots is the first new play Morgan has written in ten years. The production is billed as “an investigative study of Russian discord by Boris Berezovsky, Putin’s friend-turned-foe.”
Deadline was the first to break the news about the production, which opened at London’s Almeida Theater in July and stars Tom Hollander.
Elsewhere, Jodie Comer, who won the theater award this year for her performance in Suzie Miller’s film Big face – was from Patsy Ferran, who won for End station required. Ferran joined the production four days before the first run, where she stars alongside Paul Mescal.
The award for best actor went to Hamilton Alum Giles Terera for his role in two productions: Othello in the National Theater and Blues for an Alabama sky. The latter’s director, Lynette Linton, won the award for best director, while Tyrell Williams won the award for most promising playwright, his debut. Red cock.
The stage adaptation of the 1988 Studio Ghibli cult film by the Royal Shakespeare Company My neighbor Totoro continued its awards season dominance with Tom Pye taking home the Best Designer award.
