During the night between Thursday and Friday, April 14, the sentences of these three men were increased on appeal. One of the defendants was sentenced to 20 years in prison and the other two to 10 years each..
“We are pleased with the verdict that brought justice to the victim, who said she did not understand why two defendants only received 10 years each”Abdelfattah Zahrach told AFP to leave the court, adding he is considering a cassation appeal “after consultation with the family”.
Repeated rapes
For the victim, the horror begins in 2021. Alone at home, S., 11, is attacked and raped by three men from the neighborhood. To force him to remain silent, her attackers threaten to kill her family. His attackers are then arrested. At the end of a trial they are sentenced lightly: the parent of the child, identified through DNA analysis, receives only 2 years in prison and a fine of 30,000 dirhams (about 3,000 euros). The other two men were sentenced to 18 months’ imprisonment, of which 6 were suspended, and a fine of 20,000 dirhams. A merciful judgment that had more than shocked the country.
