A Frenchman fell in the Alps after falling through a plastic window of a ski lift while “messing around” under the influence of alcohol, prosecutors and the lift operator said.
The accident happened on Saturday when two men, 29 and 23, descended the mountain in the resort of Deux Alpes in France.
They were “fiddling around in the elevator when the 29-year-old broke through the Plexiglas window and fell 40 meters to his death,” local prosecutor Eric Vaillant said on Sunday.
According to local media, the men were filming themselves when the victim, who weighs more than 15 kilograms, crashed into the side of the lift.
Local broadcaster France Bleu reported the man fell against a slope marker and impaled himself on a post.

Fabrice Boutet, director of the Deux Alpes resort, told broadcaster BFM today: “These are lifts built for 20 people.
“If there was movement from sudden braking or anything else, they are designed to withstand impact… This stupid accident was caused by it gaining momentum and throwing itself against the Plexiglas.”
The director denied any responsibility for the accident. The ski lift is being investigated by the police.
Les Deux Alpes is at 3,600 meters the highest ski area in France.

In February, a 50-year-old British skier died after falling “tens of meters” while skiing off-piste in the French Alps and suffering cardiac arrest.
The tourist suffered serious injuries after he “took off” into the air at “very high speed” before landing on a rocky slope.
The accident happened in the Saulire sector in the seaside resort of Meribel, northeast of Les Deux Alpes.
According to The Times, France’s National Mountain Safety Monitoring System (SNOSM) recorded a total of 12 deaths in the French mountains during the 2021-22 ski season.
More than 45,000 people were treated for injuries, while emergency services attended to around 50,000 incidents.
