home and dry! Man cheats death seconds after leaving Spanish laundromat just before clothes dryer explodes in massive fireball

A man cheated death after leaving a Spanish laundry seconds before one of the tumble dryers exploded.

Footage of the extraordinary incident showed him closing the door behind him less than ten seconds before the explosion.

The explosion sent a fireball through the property where the man had just been standing after packing his clean laundry. And it was so strong that it smashed all the windows and even blew the front door off its hinges, causing further damage to the facade.

The laundry on the ground floor is located at the entrance to an industrial area in the Galician city of La Coruna. Investigators concluded that the explosion was caused by overheating of flammable fuel in a lighter left in a trouser pocket.

Footage showed the tumble dryer door being blown open before the property turned bright orange after the explosion, leaving debris on the ground inside and outside the laundry. Probably no one was inside at the time.

The incident happened around 8pm on March 14, but video of the explosion has only just been released.

Reportedly before the footage emerged, police said Firefighters were among the respondents.

Firefighters reportedly demolished the damaged facade due to a crack in the plaster.

A witness told a local newspaper the day after the explosion: “We heard a loud noise, but it didn’t sound like an explosion.

“We didn’t think anything more about it until about ten minutes later when the fire engine sirens started wailing.

“I went out and found the whole street corner destroyed.

“The fire department tore down the front wall outside because it had a crack and they thought it might collapse.”
