Fleetwood Mac’s Christine McVie has died of an ischemic stroke, according to a death certificate obtained by The Blast. The document also said she was diagnosed with “metastatic malignancy of unknown primary origin,” or cancer in which no tumor was detected.
The group’s longtime singer, songwriter and keyboardist died on November 30 at the age of 79 after what was originally described as a brief illness.
An ischemic stroke occurs when blood flow to part of the brain is interrupted or reduced. The cancer was listed as McVie’s secondary cause of death.

She joined her then-new husband John McVie’s band in 1970, just as Fleetwood Mac was leaving its first era and incarnation under guitarist Peter Green. Her first album with the group was in 1971 future gamesincluding another new member, Bob Welch.

In 1975, a remastered version of the group with Stevie Nicks and Lindsay Buckingham released the album Fleetwood Macwith standout McVie hits like “Over My Head” and “Say You Love Me”, both of which reached the top 20 on the Billboard Hot 100. But the next LP would confirm the group as one of the best sellers of all time.
rumors was number one on the Billboard 200 for a whopping 31 non-consecutive weeks and ranks 11th in all-time US album sales with over 20 million. It won the Grammy for Album of the Year in 1978 and is in the Grammy Hall of Fame.
In 1998, Fleetwood Mac was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, and later that year, McVie announced that she was leaving the group due to semi-retirement. The band then continued to record and then tour intermittently.
