Sony Studios presented the first shot of an animated series that will expand the Monsters on Vacation universe, and also announced the timing of the release.
In 2027, a new television project related to the famous film series about a monster family will appear on the screens. Sony Pictures Animation has announced the preparation of an animated series, the action of which will take place in the vastness of the Californian desert. According to studio representatives, this time the heroes leave their usual dark place and set out to build a resort for people and residents of the other world.
The original social media post read:
“The Gremlin crew is working tirelessly on the TRANSYLVANIA MOTEL. Opening on Netflix in 2027!”
The publication with the first image of the characters was posted on October 30, 2025. Viewers will therefore have to wait almost two years for the premiere, which has already caused discussion on the internet.
The project will set a new stage for the entire cinematic universe started by director Genndy Tartakovsky and author Todd Durham in 2012. Fans are of course already familiar with the long history of monsters appearing on the big screen – and beyond. Over the years, the series has been expanded with new films and even a separate animated series.
In a brief chronology, the most important parts of this story can be stated as follows:
- 2012: “Monsters on Vacation” (feature film)
- 2015: “Monsters on Vacation 2”
- 2017–2020: Animated series based on the original (2 seasons)
- 2018: “Monsters on holiday 3: The sea is calling”
- 2022: “Monsters on holiday: transformation”
Short films were also produced.
In the series, called Motel Transylvania, well-known characters will once again rule the Californian sun. According to the makers, Drac and Mavis will open a hotel for guests of any origin. The desert panoramas and daylight should provide a new challenge for the vampires, which, as mentioned, is the main comic point of the plot.
The makers have not yet revealed which actors will be reprising their favorite characters. For reference, the first film’s roles were notably played by Adam Sandler (Drac), Andy Samberg (Johnny), Selena Gomez (Mavis), Kevin James (Frankenstein), and Steve Buscemi (Vane). It is still unknown which part of this group will participate again.
Fans of the film series will have to change the gloomy interiors to the landscapes of the hot desert, but the soul of the monster family will remain the same. More details about the premiere will be released closer to the date when Sony and Netflix open the doors of the new resort. We can only wait for official news and new images of our favorite characters.
