Jon M. Chu Says Audiences Won’t See Dorothy’s Face in WICKED: FOR GOOD – ‘This Is Still Elphaba and Glinda’s Journey’

Evil director Jon M. Chu she cast her Broadway-based films beautifully, and some have speculated since the first film about who would play Dorothy in the sequel. Chu explained in a recent interview with People that Dorothy Gale will have a bigger role Forever compared to the theatrical show, however, the director confirmed that the public will not see his face.

“I didn’t want to step on who you think Dorothy is in whatever story you find yourself in this situation,” she says. This, after all, “is still Elphaba and Glinda’s journey, and she’s a pawn in the middle of it all.”

This makes sense, as The Wizard of Oz is a perfect movie that everyone knows and loves, and we don’t need to change its tradition. Wicked has always been an addition to the backstories of the Witches of Oz, and Judy Garland’s Dorothy is still remembered as the one we’ll always imagine in the role.

But it’s nice that it will be a little more present than in the stage musical. Another addition to the film includes the origin story of Elphaba’s disabled sister, Nessarose (Marissa Bode).

Furthermore, Michelle Yeoh’s Madame Morrible will also be involved in giving substance to “an iconic moment that we all know from our youth”, anticipates the director. “We have this great moment of the tornado and how it’s summoned, which isn’t actually in the show.”

Most notable among the changes made by Chu and writers Winnie Holzman and Dana Fox is the addition of two new Stephen Schwartz songs: Erivo’s “No Place Like Home” and Grande’s “The Girl in the Bubble.”

I can’t wait to hear the new songs and see the final chapter of this story. Evil: forever will be released in theaters on November 21st. Tickets are already available.
