Yes, drinking juice is good for you, but eating fruit is better, and here’s why

A seemingly healthy gesture, drinking juice is actually a false friend and here’s why.

When we try to rebalance our diet, we tend to consume fresh juices that we make ourselves from apples, strawberries, bananas and other seasonal fruits and/or vegetables. The problem is, this seemingly healthy gesture tricks your body. As ? We explain!

Fruits: A great source of fiber and vitamins

The fruits are rich in vitamins, mineral salts, but also in fibre. Unfortunately, when pressed, they lose their benefits very quickly during the oxidation phenomenon. Eventually leaving behind only… sugar. A very unfortunate observation knowing that this problem does not occur when the fruits are consumed without being processed.

But beyond the vitamins, they are the fibres, naturally contained in all fruits, which will be eliminated during the extraction of the juice. These are essential because they are loaded with polyphenols and carotenoids, two antioxidants that reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease.

But the benefits of fibers go much further, as they also help promote intestinal transit, as explained by Dr. Philippe Pouillart, professor-researcher of culinary practice and health at the Institut polytechnique, in the columns of Madame Figaro :

“The greatest loss concerns the fibres, which contribute to the correct functioning of intestinal transit, stimulate its immunity and eliminate part of the cholesterol. Fiber also contains polyphenols (antioxidants) needed for the cardiovascular system, as well as carotenoids (also antioxidants). »

Juices do not satisfy

Because they no longer have fibers, homemade and industrial juices do not help the body develop a feeling of satiety. Result? We can drink one, two, three glasses and even more by consuming solid foods to fill our stomachs. A problem that is not encountered by eating the fruit directly! Loaded with fiber, it will allow us to feel faster “full” without necessarily having to eat anything else (in the case of a snack for example).

Obviously everyone is free to enjoy a glass of fruit juice when they want, but it is a mistake, also due to the marketing implemented by the producers, to believe that it is good for health. This reflex does not have to be gesture-like at all “greet” as in the end it brings more sugars to the body than vitamins… Good for you!
