EXCLUSIVE: A backpacker’s struggle to escape from the locked trunk of a car and regain her memory becomes the plot of the latest German film from Amazon Prime Video.
In a high-octane thriller Trunk (working title), Sina Martens (The Perfumer, crime scene) will play Malina, who wakes up disoriented and shocked to find she’s missing more than just her memory. With her cell phone as her only link to the outside world, she desperately fights for survival as the vehicle races toward a terrifying mystery. Even if she does, she will never be the same.
The film has echoes of claustrophobic single-scene action films like Ryan Reynolds’ To bury and is produced by German indie Outside the Club. Marc Schiesser will write, direct and produce and Tobias Lohf will also produce.
This says Philip Pratt, Head of German Originals at Amazon tribe will “take the audience on a wild ride through all emotions”.
He told Deadline that more Prime Video films could be on the horizon “in this space” and said he’s interested in “fun, entertaining shows with action.”
Prime Video previewed German original fantasy TV series The griffin at Series Mania this week, while recently announced projects include a YA fantasy film Silver by Constantin Film, which shines Sex education Chaneil Kular and plays mostly in the UK. Amazon and Constantin have also collaborated in 2021s Our children from Bahnhof Zoo The team also has a first-look deal with best-selling author Sebastian Fitzek, which led to an adaptation of his novel The therapy.
