The National Weather Service today issued a flood warning for most of Los Angeles, Ventura, Santa Barbara and San Luis Obispo counties tonight through Wednesday afternoon. The NWS warned that “extensive flooding of roads and flooding of streams and rivers is possible”.
The waterlogged metropolis has already seen nearly double its average annual rainfall, with the Department of Water and Energy’s downtown LA headquarters recording 31 inches of rain since October. The seasonal average there is 17 inches.
Forecasts put rainfall from the coming storm at 1 to 3 inches, with snow possible above 3,500 feet and 2 to 5 feet of powder expected above 6,000 feet.

Strong winds will accompany the storm, with the DWP warning for gusts between 40 and 60 mph. “Traveling can be very difficult to impossible,” says NWS. “Very strong winds can cause major tree damage.”
Lightning and thunder are possible on the back side of the system.
