As Deadline first told you, Warner Bros. has always been a landing place for former MGM president Michael de Luca and president Pam Abdi, both as executive and producer. Their move to the new Warner Discovery wasn’t immediate, as the two kept their word with Mike Hopkins, VP of Prime Video and Amazon Studios, that they would stay at MGM through the summer.
At one point, when it was announced that De Luca and Abd would be leaving, rumors circulated that they would join the new company along with Kevin Ulrich, MGM President and CEO of Anchorage Capital Hedge Fund. According to sources, these rumors are denied. De Luca’s Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav penned a passionate handwritten note about how this will impact the newly merged conglomerate’s feature film shoot.
Former New Line filmmaker De Luca is known for his smart image selector as well as strong ties to filmmakers like Paul Thomas Anderson, Joe Wright, Ridley Scott, Ron Howard. As a producer, he directed the Oscar-winning Troika. Social Network, Moneyball Y Captain Phillips Earned $1.3 billion in revenue in 2010-2013 fifty shades of lightning franchise.
