Ireland is hosting the AFCI’s 46th Annual Cineposium Conference

Ireland has been chosen to host the 46th edition of the Association of Film Commissioners Internationale annual Cineposium conference which takes place in Limerick in September. Held for the first time in Ireland, the event brings together film commissions and industry leaders from around the world to discuss politics, economic development and film production.

The right to host the event was the result of a bidding process open to all members of the AFCI Film Committee; it was won by Film in Limerick this year.

Thanks to generous tax concessions, breathtaking scenery and experienced crews, Ireland has become an international center for film production. Oscar nominated The Banshees by Inisherin filming there, and Disney’s too disillusioned, which transformed the town of Enniskerry and was 98% local. This year’s surprise hit cocaine bear was also filmed on Emerald Isle and mimics an American national park in rural Wicklow.

“This is an excellent opportunity to build on the current wave of successes in the Irish film industry and to further strengthen our partnerships with international production companies and studios around the world,” said Catherine Martin, Ireland’s Minister for Tourism and Culture. said. “Showcasing Ireland as a global manufacturing hub is a fantastic opportunity to bring more international manufacturing to all parts of the country and further develop the skills and opportunities for Irish talent and our skilled crew.”

“I am delighted that Ireland has been chosen to host the Cineposium, where a diverse mix of film industry professionals will come together to learn, network and explore new ways of collaborating,” said Jaclyn Philpott, Executive Director of AFCI, said. “Screen Ireland joined AFCI in June 2018. Her office has always been at the forefront of sustainability, staff development programs and production support for filmmakers and content creators filming in the country and is an active and valued member of AFCI.”

Mayor of Limerick Francis Foley said: “This is great news for Limerick and shows once again that Limerick is home to film, innovation and a vibrant place where great organizations can work together on projects like this.”

Founded in 1975, AFCI provides advocacy, connectivity and education to film commissions and companies in the film industry to drive economic growth in inclusive and sustainable ways. It also hosts two signature events each year – AFCI Week and Cineposium – which attract visitors, speakers and exhibitors from around the world.
