This Saturday, March 4, many children had the opportunity to add new titles to their library a a pittance thanks to an operation between Cultura and the Reading association is about to start.
An association that offers children’s books for 80 cents all year round
Founded in 1992, Reading is leaving aims to promote access to reading for young people through the offer books at bargain prices : the 249 titles in the catalog do not exceed 80 cents.
To ensure this affordable price and keep production costs down, the association offers paperback books and scrapbooks accessible from age 2 and through high schoolFrom less than 160 pages. As for authors and illustrators, they share a 3500 euros for each novelty then tap 1500 euros for each reprint.

A social act
This formula has been very successful: according to the president of the association, Vincent Safrat, 3 million titles are sold each year. Reading is leaving also has a truck crossing France to distribute books among schools. The operation carried out with Cultura has made it possible to further increase these sales: in Yvelines, 25,000 copies they were sold in November 2022. More recently, in Franconville (Val-d’Oise), 7,000 books have been sold.
For the director of external relations of Culture, Eric Lafraise, this partnership with the association is not not a commercial operation, but a social act. The sign of the distribution touches a margin of 20 cents on each book sold to cover costs.
