EXCLUSIVE: William Baldwin, Xander Berkeley, Ashanti and Beverly D’Angelo Join All-Star Cast Behind Upcoming Drama No address about a community of homeless people fighting against the eviction of their camp.
They have been announced as the main cast by Robert Craig Films as filming begins in Sacramento.
Other cast members include Ty Pennington, Lucas Jade Zumann, Kristanna Loken, Patricia Velasquez and Isabella Ferreira.
Los Angeles-based Brit Julia Verdin directs from a script she co-wrote with James J Papa.
They created the characters from true stories gathered from research trips to shelters, missions and charities across America.
Baldwin plays a player who lives beyond his means, desperate for a profitable business to acquire land currently besieged by a community of homeless people. He is determined to find a way to remove the unwanted inhabitants from the property.
Berkeley (Terminator 2: Judgment Day, The living dead) plays a war veteran, former addict and protector of the group. He is also a talented artist who paints and sells his pieces to raise money for the group.
Grammy-winning singer-actress Ashanti plays an Iraq war veteran who suffers from PTSD and has turned to drugs as a coping mechanism.
Golden Globe nominee D’Angelo takes on the role of a former successful actress living on the streets due to early onset dementia.
Home improvement star Ty Pennington (Extreme makeover at home edition) has a cameo appearance as a charitable hardware store owner who believes strongly in second chances. Rising newcomer Zumann plays a teenager living on the streets since leaving his abusive home.
A study released in January by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) found that nearly 600,000 people across America are forced from their homes each night, and current statistics indicate that about 42,000 are homeless in Los Angeles County alone.
“My hope when I make a film about the homeless is that it will open people’s hearts to remember that there are people on the streets who have nowhere to go,” says Verdin.
The film is supported by a number of West Coast organizations that support the homeless, including Step Up LA, Union Rescue Mission LA, Downtown Women’s Center and First Presbyterian Church, Hollywood.
Baldwin is represented by Stride Management; Berkeley, by Untitled Entertainment; Ashanti, from GVA Talent Agency; Pennington from Creative Arts Agency (CAA) and Zumann from Paonessa Talent Agency and United Talent Agency.
Principal photography will continue through the end of March in the Sacramento area.
