Donald Trump continued to lash out at Fox Corp. Chairman Rupert Murdoch following the release of documents in Dominion Voting Systems’ lawsuit against Fox News.
This time, Trump said Murdoch should apologize for defending the results of the 2020 presidential election. According to Dominion’s filing released Monday, Murdoch did not believe Trump’s election claims, including that the results were in Joe Biden’s favor was cheated. The Justice Department found no evidence to support the allegation of widespread fraud.
Trump also said Murdoch should get rid of anchors who refuted the false election claims, and even those who thought they had faith but didn’t “come up.”
Trump wrote on Truth Social: “Rupert Murdoch needs to apologize to his viewers and readers for his ridiculous defense of the 2020 presidential election. How many forms of deceit and fraud does he have to face? He should also apologize to the anchors who got it right and fire those who got it wrong or were afraid to speak up (of which there were many!). Time to get rid of fake news and call it what it is!”
Trump also lashed out at Fox News and other Murdoch-controlled media outlets for interviewing Ron DeSantis, a potential contender for the Republican presidential nomination.
In their most recent filing, released Monday, Dominion lawyers focused on Murdoch’s role after the election. According to the filing, Murdoch said in a recent statement that some Fox News anchors “support” Trump’s election claims. Murdoch found these allegations “bullish – and damaging” and admitted in his statement that he “wished we were stronger in exposing” allegations of voter fraud.
Dominion claims in its lawsuit that Fox hosts and guests defamed the voice system company as they did strengthen false claims that the voting system company was involved in the manipulation of the elections. Through a deluge of texts, emails and statements, Dominion is trying to show that Fox personalities and executives knew the allegations were false but pushed them into the network show anyway, fearing it would lose the Trump-backed audience has.
Fox News has highlighted instances where moderators and personalities have walked back allegations of voter fraud and while talking about Dominion’s denials.
In the filing released Monday, Fox News argued Dominion took an “extreme, unsupported view” of defamation laws as the network covered allegations by a sitting president of the United States. It also claimed that Dominion’s release of emails and text messages “is about what will make headlines, not what can stand up to legal and factual scrutiny.”
Trump will address CPAC next weekend.
