Never-before-seen footage of Michael Schumacher with a much younger future F1 champion has been revealed.

The legendary skier has not been photographed in public since his devastating skiing accident in 2013, which left him with severe head trauma.

Ahead of the start of the new Formula 1 season, the popular Netflix docu-series Drive to Survive released a teaser featuring rare photos of the 54-year-old German.

In the photos of the seven-time F1 champion, he can be seen with a boy.

A photo shows family friend “Schumi” smiling at the very young Max Verstappen. Another shows him rocking his daughter Gina-Maria and the now 25-year-old double world champion.

In the episode, Verstappen tells how he grew up with the Schumacher family because his father Jos was Schumacher’s teammate at Benetton.

“When we were little we went on holidays, the two families, and such memories will stay with me.

“It’s great for both of us to be in Formula One and for Michael as well, he’s certainly a very proud father,” he said.

The episode also features an old clip of dads Michael and Jos discussing the possibility of their sons competing in Formula One, with Michael joking that it could be “the first time we fight”.

Updates on Schumacher’s condition are still unknown to the public. But Drive To Survive season five offers fans a glimpse into his life before the accident.

The German drove for Jordan, Benneton, Ferrari and Mercedes. He and Lewis Hamilton share the record for most drivers’ world championships – both with seven wins.

Verstappen is aiming to become a three-time world champion in a row this year, a feat achieved by only four drivers, including Michael Schumacher and Lewis Hamilton.

Meanwhile, Schumacher’s 23-year-old son Mick will join Hamilton and Mercedes’ George Russell as reserve drivers.
