EXCLUSIVE: Amazon returns to The rig for a second season.
Prime Video’s supernatural thriller will open in Edinburgh, Scotland later this year with Martin Compston (mandatory line), Iain Glen (game of thrones) and Emily Hampshire (Schott’s Creek) among the cast reprising their roles.
The first season began in January and told the story of the Kishorn Bravo oil rig, stationed off the Scottish coast, shrouded in a mysterious fog that cuts off all lines of communication.
Season 2 follows the surviving Kinloch Bravo crew as they are lifted off the platform by helicopter and transported to a new location where new dangers await. They deal with swirling conspiracies, conflicts and new threats from the depths of the oceans.
Produced by Wild Mercury Productions, supported by Banijay The rig and filming will take place at First Stage Studios.
The series was created by David Macpherson and directed by John Strickland, who serves as executive producer alongside Wild Mercury founder Derek Wax. Suzanne Reid is the producer while Matt Brown is co-producer.
Macpherson said: “In season two, I’m looking forward to expanding the world of our show through the eyes of our stellar cast, as we deliver more shock and suspense, and delve deeper into our characters and our growing original mythology. Show .”
Recurring cast members include Rochenda Sandall (Criminal Law: United Kingdom), Owen Teele (game of thrones), Mark Addy (game of thrones) Molly Vevers (The Spanish Princess), Abraham Popoola (Cruella) and Stuart McQuarrie (of).
The rig is Amazon’s second British original drama to be renewed in recent months The devil’s hour.
