Sony Pictures’ Stage 6 Films wins rights to A24 & Ari Aster’s ‘Beau Is Afraid’ in UK and other markets: EFM

EXCLUSIVE: In a seven-figure deal struck last week, Sony Pictures’ Stage 6 Films beat rivals to the UK rights to Ari Aster’s Beau is scaredwhich will be released A24 on April 21 in the US.

Phase 6 has also acquired rights from A24 in the Middle East, global shipping and airlines, and pay TV across Asia.

As we revealed last week, Leonine has secured the German rights. Russia (Volga), Switzerland (Ascot Elite) and Australia (Roadshow) were also sold.

Ari Asters (midsummer) third film for A24 stars Oscar winners Joaquin Phoenix, Nathan Lane, Amy Ryan, Stephen McKinley Henderson, Hayley Squires, Denis Ménochet, Kylie Rogers, Armen Nahapetian, Zoe Lister-Jones, Parker Posey and Patti LuPone.

Described as a “brave and depraved film,” the big-budget film tells the story of a paranoid man who embarks on an epic odyssey to get home to his mother. Phoenix plays the man in different stages of his life.

Pic is produced by A24, Square Peg’s Ari Aster and Lars Knudsen, Access Entertainment’s Len Blavatnik and Danny Cohen, and IPR.VC’s Elisa Alvares and Timo Argillander.

Contains the current list of Sony’s Stage 6 movies A man named Otto currently in theaters and starring Tom Hanks and directed by Marc Forster; the next part in the Search franchise, miss; and that of Craig Gillespie stupid money which is currently in post-production and features an ensemble cast that includes Paul Dano, Seth Rogen, Sebastian Stan, Pete Davidson, Shailene Woodley, America Ferrera, Anthony Ramos, Dane DeHaan, Vincent D’Onofrio and Myha’la Herrold.
