SAG-AFTRA extends contract of national executive director Duncan Crabtree-Ireland ahead of film and TV negotiations

SAG-AFTRA has renewed the contract of Duncan Crabtree-Ireland, the Guild’s national executive director. The Guild’s National Board of Directors, meeting via video conference on Friday, voted overwhelmingly to extend the contract until June 20, 2028. The vote was 87.68% in favor and 12.32% against.

Crabtree-Ireland is the Guild’s chief negotiator and its contract renewal comes ahead of the June 30 expiry of the Guild’s film and television contract. No dates have been set for the start of these talks.

“Duncan is a strategic thinker and an exceptional leader who has been outstanding in leading our business,” said SAG-AFTRA President Fran Drescher. “He is also the tough and efficient negotiator we need. We are fortunate to benefit from his leadership and look forward to rolling up our sleeves and negotiating an innovative and effective TV/cinema deal.”

“I am delighted to continue to fight for the members of SAG-AFTRA,” said Crabtree-Ireland. “I want to thank President Drescher, our elected officers and national board members for their confidence in me. It is truly an honor to represent the world’s most extraordinary artists and journalists and I look forward to moving it forward together.”

Crabtree-Ireland has been the chief executive of the Guild since June 2021 when he succeeded David White in this position. Before that, he was the guild’s deputy, serving as chief operating officer and general counsel.

Prior to the merger of SAG and AFTRA in 2012, he was Deputy National Executive Director of SAG and a key participant in the negotiations leading to the merger. He was also the coordinator of SAG-AFTRA’s Covid safety response and return to workplace initiatives.
