“Saturday Night Live” revolves around a “Breaking News” cold prelude with an interview with the fallen Chinese balloon

Saturday night live quickly flipped a sketch rail against the US military’s downing of the Chinese balloon earlier Saturday, underscoring the national obsession with suspected spy vehicles.

Just hours after cable news reported on the missile strike that sent the balloon into ocean waters off the coast of South Carolina, SNL opens with its own news report on the latest development, which includes an MSNBC interview with the balloon’s floating remains, played by Bowen Yang.

“Well, I’m sorry you’re in the water, but thanks for talking to us,” Katy Tur (Chloe Fineman) said over the balloon.

But the outraged Ballon replied: “I entertain you for four days, but then I get shot by Biden! I can’t believe I’m Joe’s Osama.”

“What did you do when you flew over Montana?” asked Tur.

The balloon replied: “I love the show yellowstone. It’s like successorbut outside.”

Tur then remarked, “I’m actually surprised you’re still floating. Experts said they were the size of three buses.”

The balloon replied: “Okay. Oh. I’m a balloon so this is my body. How would you like someone to measure your width on buses? Sorry, it’s not me camera ready.”

The smart segment worked when it focused on a single news topic that dominated the headlines and social media over the past few days. It also raised international tensions when Foreign Secretary Tony Blinken canceled a planned trip to Beijing.

The SNL The sketch began with Tur announcing: “Our long national nightmare is over. We have the balloon.”

She told viewers: “The discovery of the massive surveillance bubble earlier this week has fueled the already volatile relationship between the US and China, with many on the right calling the Biden administration’s response soft, including this tweet by Donald Trump Jr.” If my father was president, there would be no balloons.”

Tur then interviewed General William Hamilton (Kenan Thompson) of the Pentagon, who sternly announced, “We popped the balloon.”

Tur then asked, “General, we have never seen an object like this enter our airspace before. How did this happen?”

Hamilton replied, “That’s an excellent question Katy. The balloon somehow managed to get through our anti-balloon defense system on the west coast – the Seattle Space Needle.

He then showed a 3D rendering of the balloon, which is actually an inflated birthday present.

“I want everyone to know that we do not tolerate Chinese espionage of any kind,” the general said. “But to be honest, they’ve got everything they need from TikTok, so scroll away, kids!”
