Toni Collette and Odessa Young reunite in Nathan Silver’s revenge thriller The Prima Donna;  Cornerstone launch at EFM

Mafia Mom And knife oldt-star Toni Collette and Odessa Young (The Stairs, Mother’s Day, Shirley) has signed on to star in writer-director Nathan Silver’s twisted revenge thriller The prima donna.

Collette and Young previously worked together on HBO’s award-winning series The stairs.

The drama revolves around a dysfunctional family dynamic, the dangers of ambition and the struggles we go into to make our mark on the world.

Set in modern-day Rome, Collette plays a legendary opera diva who is about to win the role of her life when her estranged daughter (Young) arrives on her doorstep fresh from rehab.

The daughter, herself an aspiring opera singer, gathers the courage to ask her mother’s consideration. When her mother heartlessly rejects the proposal, at night she and begins to contemplate ultimate revenge, leading to a crushing battle of wills.

Silver, whose credits are included Dorsstraat, uncertain conditions, is a regular at the festivals with his films, which have previously been shown at the New York Film Festival, Venice, Tribeca, Mar del Plata, AFI and Locarno, among others. He also co-wrote the screenplay with C. Mason Wells.

Cornerstone will handle international sales and distribution and will begin selling in the European film market. CAA Media Finance and Anonymous Content represent North America.

The film is produced by Dark Castle Entertainment and Rough House Pictures and directed by David Lancaster (whiplash, night crawler), Julian Lawitschka (Halloween ends) and Wolfgang Hamer (In Llewyn Davis, House of Cards) alongside Hal Sadoff from Dark Castle (Hotel Rwanda), Ethan Erwin (The nice guys) and Alex Mace (Be: kill first).

David Gordon Green is executive producing along with Rough House Pictures’ Danny McBride, Jody Hill and Brandon James, Vocab Films’ Toni Collette and Anonymous Content’s Nick Shumaker.

Cornerstone’s Alison Thompson and Mark Gooder said: “We are delighted to be working again with Toni Collette on this highly entertaining adult thriller.”
