Occupying the CDI to navigate the college’s only computer is a thing of the past. Aware of the digital issues that await all students leaving secondary school, the Minister of Education wishes to strengthen their training on digital tools.
This Tuesday, January 17, Pap Ndiaye announced the imminent implementation of a series of measures aimed at improving the learning of digital tools, but also at understanding their risks.
A complete digital education for 2027
National Education will implement modules from the beginning of sixth grade to develop middle school students’ digital skills. In the context of media and information education, students will participate, for example, in various workshops and projects (press week, web radio, etc.).
Starting from the fifth grade, students will also acquire notions of coding and programming, and will study the functioning of some systems such as algorithms. Pap Ndiaye also wants to promote new digital professions in middle and high schools. New technological sectors should see the light of day by 2027, such as the Bachelor’s Degree in Cybersecurity, Information Technology and Electronic Networks. In general, the training map will include these new skills in existing courses and offer new ones, adapted to the 2.0 developments in the professional world.
Prevent risks and reduce discrimination
While for some these measures reflect the government’s Startup Nation spirit, they nevertheless fit the reality of our global and daily use of digital tools. Students will also be instructed as soon as they enter 6ᵉ in the correct use of digital resources and social platforms. These sessions will help prevent the risks of cyberbullying and teach children the concept of cybersecurity.
Finally, the Minister wants to encourage young women to devote themselves to digital professions, which are still predominantly exercised by men. His project? Offer a more attractive education for female students and promote access to science and new technologies for all.
