‘My Lover My Killer’: Netflix orders second season of ‘True Crime Doc’ series

EXCLUSIVE: Netflix has launched a second season of its British true crime series My lover, my killer.

The first season was a hit on the service and spent several weeks in the top ten on the streamers chart, leading to a rebroadcast of the show, produced by FirstLook on TV.

Distributor Abacus Media Rights completed the deal on behalf of FirstLook, an indie act based in the Midlands of England.

The recurring series will once again explore stories of those who paid the ultimate price for offending an obsessed lover. These include stories about a possessed soldier on a deadly mission and a crime scene at a puppy farm.

They are told with interviews from people involved in the cases, which include some of Britain’s most shocking murders. Each episode features testimonies from families and friends of the victims and investigators.

FirstLook said: “Part of the intention of bringing the series back is to raise awareness of these dangerous relationships and crimes and therefore empower people with the ability to identify the signposts before it’s too late.”

As such, the series will explore the psychology that motivates this type of violence.

Will Hanrahan, founder of FirstLook TV and executive producer My lover, my killer said: “We are grateful to the families and friends of the victims involved. Their stories have allowed us to shed light on the dangers of toxic relationships and help viewers spot the signs that can help prevent more crime.

“We are also grateful to Netflix for recognizing the importance of these stories, and the endorsement that comes from commissioning a second season further establishes FirstLook TV as the leading producer of true crime documentaries. We are confident that the second series will be just as popular and will serve as a social resource for the public to understand how to identify and avoid dangerous relationships.
