‘RRR’ and ‘Thor’ star Ray Stevenson to star in ex-Kevin Spacey pic ‘1242: Gateway To The West’, filming in Hungary ahead of EFM’s relaunch

EXCLUSIVE: RRR and Thor Star Ray Stevenson is set to star in a period drama 1242: Gate to the Westwhich is now being filmed in Budapest, Hungary.

Stevenson takes on the role, which was originally to be played by Kevin Spacey, but the latter was pulled from the project by producers last year after new allegations against the actor emerged.

Stevenson recently played the main antagonist in SS Rajamouli’s Oscar-nominated blockbuster RRR and is known for playing Volstagg in Marvel’s Thor franchises and for TV series viking.

Stevenson joins Oscar nominee Eric Roberts (Runaway train), Michael Ironside (boss), Neil Stuke (sliding doors), David Schofield (gladiator), Jeremy Neumark-Jones (refusal) and Genevieve Florence (avenue 5).

Carlos Alperin of Galloping Entertainment is responsible for international sales and will present the newly configured project at the upcoming EFM in Berlin.

The film follows a very spiritual man (Neumark-Jones) from Esztergom Castle in Hungary who must face the great Mongol army led by Batu Khan, grandson of Genghis Khan (Mongol actor Bold Choimbol) who invaded Europe in 1242. their unlikely meeting during the Mongolian New Year festival when hostilities break down. Stevenson will play papal legate Cesareani, a secret Mongol ally who plays a key role as mediator.

The international co-production from Great Britain, Hungary, Mongolia and Australia is directed by experienced Hungarian director Péter Soós from a screenplay by Áron Horváth and Joan Lane. Bill Chamberlain and Kornel Sipos produced. Executive producers are Carlos Alperin, Paul Brett, Tim Smith and Csaba Iski.

Composer Mike Moren, who was a co-writer Barcelona along with Freddie Mercury from Queen the film music.
