Prime Video Features Patrick Mackay True Crime Doc ‘Confessions of a Psycho Killer’

EXCLUSIVE: Prime Video UK and Ireland was on board with a feature film Confessions of a Psycho Killer.

The 90-minute film takes viewers back to 1975, when the body of 63-year-old Reverend Anthony Crean was found dead after a brutal ax attack in a quiet village in Kent. A young man, Patrick Mackay, confessed to the murder and a series of follow-up interviews with the police led to a disturbing series of confessions that spread to London.

Mackay, now 70, has been imprisoned in the UK since 1975 and is considered one of the country’s most disturbed and prolific serial killers.

Prime Video pulled the doc through a deal brokered by UK distributor Abacus Media Rights. The feature is from Woodcut Media and will launch on the streamer in the UK and Ireland on 1 February. Abacus will sell it elsewhere.

AMR and Woodcut have teamed up for another timely true crime doc from Prime Video, Meredith’s murderwhich began in November, Deadline announced at the time.

Woodcut’s Nick Mavroidakis produced the document. Matt Blyth is directing and Kate Beal is executive producing.

Woodcut co-founder Blyth said: “Mackay is Britain’s forgotten serial killer and it is extraordinary that people rarely hear his name. His confessions, which ultimately led to his prison sentence, are truly shocking and reveal a cold-blooded killer without remorse or empathy .Making this documentary was an enlightening experience as knowing that Mackay may one day soon be released from prison gives this historical crime story a very different perspective.

Jonathan Ford, Managing Director at Abacus Media Rights, said: “We are delighted to be working with one of the UK’s leading factual broadcasters again and to be working with Prime Video again. True crime at its finest, this is an extraordinarily chilling documentary from Woodcut Media that is sure to enthrall audiences around the world.”
