Keanu Reeves and Alex Winter leave the door open for BILL & TED 4

It seems Bill and Ted he may have another excellent adventure in store.

As they currently share the stage in their Broadway run Waiting for Godot, Keanu Reeves AND Alex Winter recently hinted that they’re not done with their time-traveling alter egos yet.

The show, which opened last month and runs until January 2026, brought together the two longtime friends and, of course, the question of another Bill and Ted the movie came out.

When Variety asked him if they would agree Bill and Ted 4Reeves didn’t hesitate. “Yes and yes,” he said.

That short, enthusiastic response was enough to push fans into wild speculation about what a fourth film might look like. After all, it’s been more than three decades since Reeves and Winter first took on the roles of Ted Logan and Bill S. Preston in the 1989 sci-fi comedy. Bill and Ted’s Excellent Adventure.

In that film, Bill and Ted are two well-meaning but academically challenged high schoolers who are in danger of failing their history class, which could send Ted to military school. Their fate, and seemingly the fate of humanity, takes a surprising turn when he plays Rufus, a traveler from the future Giorgio Carlinarrives in a time-traveling phone booth to help them get through their presentation.

Together, they travel through history collecting characters like Napoleon, Socrates, and Joan of Arc to save their votes and, inadvertently, the world.

Directed by Stefano Herek, Bill and Ted’s Excellent Adventure became a surprise hit, earning $40.5 million worldwide and rave reviews. The sequel, Bill and Ted’s Fake Tripfollowed in 1991 with a slightly darker and stranger tone and a smaller box office gross of $38 million. Despite this, both films evolved into cult classics that still resonate with fans today.

Nearly thirty years later, the duo reunited once again Bill and Ted face the music in 2020. This time, the lovable slackers were middle-aged dads tasked with writing a song powerful enough to save humanity itself.

The film featured a supporting cast that included Kristen Schaal, Samara weaving, Antonio Carrigan, Erinn Hayes, Jayma Mays, Holland Taylor, The Cudi boy, William SadlerAND Jillian Bell.

Unfortunately, since it was released in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, Bill and Ted face the music it only grossed $6.3 million worldwide.

Even so, it was a heartfelt reunion that reminded fans why they loved these characters in the first place, and clearly rekindled something between Reeves and Winter.

Winter and Reeves will start looking around him.

Winter had previously talked about a fourth film, saying, “We’re tinkering with an idea for the fourth film that we all like, and the guys will write, so we’ll see. It takes time to make these things work, and we never want to make them unless they’re great.”

Winter went on to say that the film will only be made if he, Reeves, Solomon and Matheson are all satisfied with the script. He also explained that they have a great idea for the next chapter in Bill and Ted’s story:

“They feel the same way, it must be right. We love [the Bill & Ted movies] because they are quirky and not your typical mainstream films. They were never for-profit films; no one got rich from the Bill and Ted series.

“We really make them sincerely, from a place of love and interest. There’s a really good idea that the writers had for a quarter that’s pretty obvious. I don’t want to reveal it — I can’t reveal it because I’d be drawn and quartered — but it’s a really good idea, an obvious idea. It’ll be written and we’ll see if we can actually pull it off.”

Although there is no official news on the development Bill and Ted 4the fact that both stars are open to returning is encouraging. The last film ended on a harmonious and hopeful note, but with this franchise there’s always room for more time travel.

If Reeves and Winter are truly ready to bring Bill and Ted back for one last run, fans can only say one thing: be excellent to each other and keep partying, guys.
