Alec Baldwin will be held responsible for the shooting that killed cameraman Galina Hutchinson on the set of Rust.
The prosecutor’s office in Santa Fe County, New York announced that Baldwin will be charged with manslaughter. Hannah Gutierrez-Reid, the film’s chief gunman, was also charged with manslaughter. Both can be sentenced to a maximum of five years in prison if found guilty.

Assistant director Dave Halls has agreed to a plea bargain for negligent use of a deadly weapon. He will receive a suspended sentence and six months probation.
Special Prosecutor Andrew Reeb said during the filing of the charges: “The evidence clearly shows that there was a criminal neglect of security on the Rust set. There is no place in New Mexico for movie sets that do not take our state’s commitment to gun safety and public safety seriously.”

Alec has denied having committed any crime the entire time. He has also repeatedly said that his assistant manager, Dave Halls, had given him a fake firearm and said it was a “cold” weapon, meaning it was empty and safe.
The FBI disagreed with Alec’s claim and, after testing the gun, released a report concluding that the gun would not have fired had someone not pulled the trigger. Galina’s death was ultimately considered an accident.
