Oscar winner Kevin Spacey has spoken out as he prepares to accept a film award in Italy this week, days after pleading guilty to seven sex crime charges.

Spacey, who has faced a number of allegations against him in the wake of the #MeToo movement, is being honored by Italy’s National Film Museum – a decision that has proved controversial in the country.

After denying seven other sex offenses against a man in a London court in the early 2000s, the Hollywood outsider told Italian news outlet Ansa that he tries to live each day as it comes and that he doesn’t cave did not live

“I live my life every day, I go to restaurants, I meet people, I drive, I play tennis, I have always met people who are generous, sincere and compassionate,” said the 63-year-old.

“I wasn’t hiding, I wasn’t living in a cave,” he added. “What you see in the media is not real life. I’m not getting my public life back because I never left it.”

Allegations against the Hollywood star include sexual assault, touching clothing and forcing the complainant’s hand against his genitals over clothing.

Spacey was arraigned at Southwark Crown Court on Friday after previously denying five allegations involving three other men in their 30s and 40s.

The new charges include three counts of indecent assault, three counts of assault and one count of inciting sexual activity without an individual’s consent on unspecified dates between 2001 and 2005.

In addition to presenting the Lifetime Achievement Award at the Italian Film Museum on Monday, he will also give a master class.

In November, when the award was announced, the museum’s president, Enzo Ghigo, said: “We are honored that a guest as distinguished as Kevin Spacey has chosen Turin and our museum for this long-awaited return to an audience event.”

“Of all the cities in the world, he has now chosen Turin for a master class. He could not have given us a better gift,” says Domenico De Gaetano, the director of the National Museum, who will moderate the master class.

The decision to lend Spacey the gong has been widely discussed, with the actor at the center of several allegations of sexual assault.

But the actor appeared to be in good spirits on the day of his virtual appearance on Friday, seen walking the streets of Turin waving to fans.

Appearing via video link at Southwark Crown Court in London, Spacey confirmed his identity and pleaded not guilty to all seven charges against him.

He now faces a total of 12 charges in connection with four men between 2001 and 2013.

The two-time Oscar winner, known for his leading roles in ‘American Beauty’, ‘The Usual Suspects’ and ‘House Of Cards’, appeared at the Old Bailey last July to contest the five previous charges.

He pleaded not guilty to four counts of sexual assault and one count of inciting penetrative sexual activity without a person’s consent.

The first two charges relate to the alleged assault by a man, now in his 40s, on 20 March 2005 in London.

The second alleged victim, a man in his 30s, claims he was sexually assaulted by Spacey in London on August 31, 2008.

Spacey also faces a serious sexual offense charge of causing a person to engage in penetrative sexual activity without consent in connection with the second alleged victim.

He faces a fourth assault charge in Gloucestershire in April 2013 against the third accuser, who is now in his 30s.

Regarding Spacey’s first five charges, attorney Patrick Gibbs, KC said: “Mr. Spacey vehemently denies any wrongdoing in this case.”

The actor vowed to “prove his innocence”.

Spacey was granted unconditional bail and will face a four-week trial on all charges on June 6. A preliminary exam will take place on April 5.

The actor, who was artistic director of The Old Vic from 2004 to 2015, last October won a US civil lawsuit accusing him of “unwanted sexual advances” at a party in 1986.

In that lawsuit, Spacey “categorically” denied the allegations and said he had “no sexual interest or desire” at the time or since the alleged incident.

On October 20 last year, a jury found Spacey not liable, and the court in New York dismissed the assault charges against the actor.
