Placido Domingo has denied new allegations of sexual harassment

Legendary tenor Placido Domingo is facing a new round of sexual harassment allegations, three years after he resigned from the Los Angeles Opera over similar allegations.

The new allegations come from a fellow Spanish singer with whom Domingo appeared on a TV show broadcast on La Sexta in Spain. She claims he tried to kiss her once and also asked her to touch her on another occasion after a rehearsal at a local theater some two decades ago.

“The first time I felt uncomfortable was when we were training,” said the woman at La Sexta. “[Domingo] said to me in front of everyone, “Listen, can I put my hand in one of your pretty pockets.” I was wearing trousers with an embroidered back pocket.”

Prosecutors added that they did not report Domingo’s alleged actions to authorities.

“One of the first things they tell you is that you don’t get into the elevator alone with Placido Domingo,” she told La Sexta.

The LA Opera reported in August 2019 that Domingo, then its longtime general manager, reported that it was investigating allegations of sexual harassment by nine women over 30 against him.

The report, broken by the Associated Press, claims eight singers and one dancer said they were molested by Domingo, who has been general manager of the LA Opera since 2003, including one who said he “had his hand on it. ” laid her skirt. “. ‘ and others claiming he ‘forced wet kisses on her lips’.

Domingo, who rose to fame in the 1960s and whose first Three Tenors album with Luciano Pavarotti and José Carreras is the best-selling classical recording of all time, left the Los Angeles post weeks later.

At the time, the Philadelphia Orchestra withdrew an invitation for Domingo to perform with the orchestra at that year’s opening concert.
