Are you having a dry January and looking for a way to keep busy without hitting the bars for a drink? Do you want to stay warm or do you need to see cute things on screen to cheer you up a bit?

You’re lucky, I have under the elbow four excellent animated shows ready to become your new cuddle series.

Cathartic, experimental, relaxing, or captivating, these creations should be able to gently channel your anxieties by delivering high-quality scenery. No wonder, since these are, in my humble opinion the best in their category.

Maya and the three, adventure and an aesthetic slap

Maya and the three ( Where is it Maya, warrior princess it VF) has been on Netflix for a week but to tell the truth I binge-watched it in one night, precisely yesterday… And even though I’m tired today, I don’t regret ANYTHING.

Last born of Jorge R. Gutierrez, creator of the magnificent Legend of Manolo, Maya and the three take place in a universe that evokes precolonial Central America.

Maya, princess of the people Tecasdiscovers on the day of her coronation that she is actually the daughter of the goddess of death, a status with serious consequences for her, her people and humanity in general…

A long search for the young woman follows, together with the comrades we all love from the first second. Because in this series, each character has a complex and rich history, and each people has its own specificities cultural, physical or linguistic, never treated lightly.

Overwhelming with emotions in certain scenes, Maya and the three it is above all of a dazzling beauty: behind every project there is a brilliant realization idea, on every outfit there are a multitude of details and references. The extremely well choreographed fight scenes are also mind blowing.

In short, the series has everything from technical prowess, sprinkled with emotion, to drama between humans and gods, and the power of friendship a little cheese. Besides, it is full of badass female roles: what else ?

Why is it one of the best?

For its sense of detail, its beauty and its execution more than lick.

Kipo and the Age of Wondrous Beasts, the post-apo for the ecologically anxious

Kipo and the Age of Wonderful BeastsWhere is it Kipo and the Age of Animals in the language of Molière, it is the result of a collaboration between the very famous American studios DreamWorks and the South Korean studio Mir.

Kipo’s story begins in the 23rd century, in a post-apocalyptic world where animals have mutated. Bigger, smarter and with more legs, these “mutants” have rebelled against the humans, who now hide in their burrows, while the Earth is populated by giant corgis frolicking in the meadows, frogs in tuxedos and lumberjack cats.

It is in this dangerous world for humans that Kipo finds herself lost and estranged from her family. In your search for her to find them, you will be led to discover the origins of this ecological crisis, question values in which she was brought up and, of course, to make friends.

Kipo and the Age of Wonderful Beastsis a series of adventures and journeys in the midst of landscapes that are all more original and imaginative than each other. It’s also a fairy tale, where every fictitious society tells something about us, and where morality is always much more relevant than what we would like to believe.

All in a humorous universe with pop colors… And with an amazing soundtrack, where you can even hear Sterling K. Brown (yes, Randall’s actor in This is us) sing. Something to channel our eco-anxiety about winter.

Why is it one of the best?

For his inventiveness, which ranges from landscapes to soundtracks, and because there we see very, very large corgis.

The Owl House, breathtaking, inclusive and fun

The Owl Housein French Luz in Osville, features a strange and proud teenager. In the human world, Luz struggles to find her place and constantly dreams of a place where she can be understood. When she meets a marginal witch who travels between our world and the wizarding world, she finds a surrogate family who takes her in. a quest that could be summarized as follows: to destroy oppressive norms. Just that !

Two seasons are out, the third is underway and we warn you: even if You ORwl-house answering all the codes of a plush series (a Harry Potter-style school of witchcraft, wacky characters and sometimes a bit simplistic plot resolutions), it is unlike any other.

Each character is complex and captivating, the plot assumes and claims a political character, and deals with strong themes such as the biological family and the chosen family, mourning, self-affirmation. The icing on the cake, the script is like this quality that season 2 might give you a sleepless night or two!

Love, friendship, trauma and above all self-respect in a world where the slightest difference is seen as a defect: as many themes as The Owl House explore with panache and finesse. All with a diversity of expressions of gender, body or love relationships unmatched in the Disney + catalog.

Created by Dana Terrace, the series has two seasons available on Disney+ and the third (and final) is now streaming.

Why is it one of the best?

Featuring a lesbian love story, the characters are complex and elaborate, and the script is full of surprises and suspense.

The Amazing World of Gumball, for the love of nonsense

The fantastic world of chewing gum (The fantastic world of chewing gum) is probably the strangest series on this list: through animation like you’ve never seen anywhere else and such chaotic storytelling than real life can be, tells the story of two twelve-year-old boys.

Created by the Franco-British Benjamin Bocquelet, it features a young blue cat, Gumball Waterson, and his best friend Darwin, a goldfish with legs (we warned you, it’s absurd), in the depths of their pre-adolescence.

At school, at home or in their social relationships, Gumball and Darwin do anything – and that’s fine, because everyone else does around them, children and adults.

With quirky humor, the children’s series originally released on Cartoon Network reminds each episode that theLife has no meaning and we can laugh about it a lot. On the production side, here too, surrealism prevails: 3D and 2D mix without any respect for any code, and move against ultra-realistic backgrounds.

If these elements have not convinced you to go take a look, you can also take a look at the long list of prestigious nominations for the series on its wikipedia page.

Why is it one of the best?

Because she is different from the others.
