EXCLUSIVE: Jonas Dassler (The golden glove) is supposed to play German pastor and theological spy Dietrich Bonhoeffer in the thriller god spyBased on a true story.
Others rely on the image written and directed by cloudy Author Todd Komarnicki includes Flula Borg (The Suicide Squad), David Johnson (Industry), August Diehl (A Hidden Life), Moritz Bleibtreu (World War Z) and BAFTA-nominated Clarke Peters (The cable).
Set in Berlin during the Third Reich, the film explores Bonhoeffer’s determination to live his life with unwavering political and spiritual courage while speaking truth to those in power in his effort to save Jewish lives. Bonhoeffer was one of the few clergy who recognized the danger of Hitler’s anti-Semitic rhetoric early on, and while the German church approved of Hitler, Bonhoeffer accepted him. First from the pulpit – and then from the front. In doing so, he may have lost the battle for his life, but he won the victory that light always wins over darkness.
Komarnicki also serves as god spy‘s producer. Executive producers are Mark O’Sullivan (mystical) and Richard Caleel of the Irish In Plain Sight Group, Viv De Courcy (Dare to be wild) from Irish production company Crow’s Nest Productions and Sarada McDermott (Bridgeton). Jean Jacques Neira (Sleepless night), Christophe Mazodier (Two days in New York) and Valerie Lardino co-produced for Belgian production house Fontana.
“This is a film about an eternal man,” Komarnicki said. “Dietrich was the rarest of people: a visionary who lived his life every day with authenticity and meaning. He was a fearless martyr who brought the atrocities of war to the attention of the world and was not silenced even when no one believed him.
The filmmaker adds: “We currently live in a time where people are completely divided and afraid to speak out for fear of being judged or wrong. To judge without forgiveness paralyzes society and creates a spirit of fear. Dietrich’s story inspires us to see that love wins, even when we seem to have lost. Love is his superpower and he uses it to change the world, which he is still doing 80 years after his death.”
“This film is an incredibly important and poignant story and a reminder that the truth always sets us free, no matter the cost,” commented EP Mark O’Sullivan. “Dietrich paid the ultimate price for the truth he preached, and this is not just a story from another time, but forever.”

Named an EFP Shooting Star by the 2020 Berlin Film Festival, Dassler is a German actor perhaps best known for starring in the 2019 crime drama The golden glove, by writer-director Fatih Akin. Other credits include the Lena Stahl drama my sonOscar nominated by Florian Henckel von Donnersmarck never look away and the German crime series The typist. The drama also arises for him Berlin no one written and directed by Jordan Scott, starring Eric Bana.
Komarnicki is best known for his lyrics to Clint Eastwood’s picture cloudy with Tom Hanks and the image of Farhad Safinia The Professor and the Madman, including Mel Gibson and Sean Penn. He has also produced projects such as the Will Ferrell Christmas classic Eleven and the Eddie Murphy comedy, Meet Dave.
