Al Roker will return today Friday after a long absence for health reasons.
“He’s here in Studio 1A. This is his place. He will be in his seat where he belongs,” co-host Hoda Kotb announced Tuesday. Craig Melvin, who co-hosts 3rd lesson from today with Roker, said they would be together again.
Last month, Roker made a virtual appearance on the news show and described his medical battle as a “hard job”, telling viewers: “I won’t deny it. It’s been the hardest thing so far – and you know I managed to have my share of the operations.
Roker was first hospitalized in November with blood clots in his lungs and leg. He was released on Thanksgiving Day but returned a short time later due to complications. He was released on December 8.
His absence forced him to withdraw from coverage of the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, the first time he has done so in 25 years. He also missed the Rockefeller Center Christmas tree lights.
“I have some problems, but I feel good, I feel strong and every day I feel a little better,” he said last month. “I had dinner last night. I just have a feeling it’s going to be a bit of a problem, but there are a lot of people out there dealing with a lot more with a lot less resources. I am very privileged and very blessed to have the resources that I have had.
