Ricky Strauss appointed head of Apple TV+ marketing

Ricky Strauss starts as head of Apple TV+ Marketing on Tuesday. A 30-year veteran, Strauss spent more than nine years at Disney, most recently as president of content and marketing for Disney+, where he oversaw the launch of the service and served as president of programming for Hulu and Disney+ has.

In his new role, Strauss will lead consumer marketing campaigns, creative advertising, media and promotions in original series and films for Apple TV+, the service led by Heads of Worldwide Video Zack Van Amburg and Jamie Erlicht. Strauss will be part of Apple’s marketing communications team under VP Tor Myhren and will be based in Culver City, where he will work closely with the program directors and the director of public relations and awards, among others.

Prior to his appointment as president of programming at Hulu and Disney+, Strauss was president of marketing at Walt Disney Studios, where his role included leading marketing strategies and campaigns for Disney films. Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, The Avengers, Captain America: Civil War, Guardians of the Galaxy, The Jungle Book, Cinderella, Maleficent, Beauty and the Beast, Frozen, Moana, Incredibles 2 and more.

Strauss joined Disney after seven years as president of participatory media, overseeing a variety of socially relevant films, including Oscar-winning films The help, an inconvenient truth, the bay and I’m waiting for Superman.

Earlier this year, the three-year-old Apple TV+ became the first streamer to win the Oscar for best picture KODAand this year it is so Emancipation, Spirited, Causeway, Sidney, Cha Cha Real Smooth, Luck, Louis Armstrong’s Black & Blues and Selena Gomez: My mind and me in the awards-season mix. On the TV side, the product launches include Severance, The Afterparty, Bad Sisters, Black Bird, For All Mankind and pachinko. It also has several Emmy winners Teddy Lasso Return.

2023 entries to be directed by Martin Scorsese Killer of the Flower Moon scheduled to premiere in Cannes and directed by Matthew Vaughn argyle amongst other things.
