Step on your magic carpet, we take you back to the 90s. Do you remember the cartoon Aladdin? Definitely, otherwise you wouldn’t have clicked on this article. If you have some of the history of the cartoon in mind, you probably remember that at the very beginning of the film, in the first scene, a salesman wants to reforge several wacky items, ranging from an indestructible (but broken) fryer to a butt plate, the famous Dead Sea Tupperware.
And then suddenly, the seller presents the famous lamp and its history. But by the way, who is this guy really?
The seller of Aladdin’s magic lamp is no stranger
If you no longer have the scene in mind, here it is in video, just to refresh your memory:
So, do you recognize him? No ? But he is dressed all in blue, with a red ribbon around his waist, a goatee, his voice is that of Robin Williams… Yes, this amulet seller is really the Genie of the lamp himself!
And it’s not us who say it, it’s Ron Clements and John Musker, the directors of the cartoon, in an interview available on AND! News :
This is true ! This was our original intention. We even did a scene at the end of the movie where the salesman was shown as the genius, and of course Robin Williams also voiced the character.
But with the story changes and editing, we’ve removed this revelation. So it became an urban legend that is actually true.
So, did you know? While Disney character theories abound on the net, they are often wrong, such as the one that says Anna and Elsa were actually Tarzan’s sisters. But for once, we’ve found a real theory! He won’t change our lives, but he always brings a smile.
