Indian cricketer Rishabh Pant died early Friday morning after a horrific car accident in which his vehicle overturned several times and caught fire.
Shocking video footage of the scene, captured shortly after the brutal collision, shows the bloodied cricketer being helped by locals as the car burst into flames in the middle of the road.
Pant (25) lies by the side of the road before a group of onlookers pull him to his feet. He is later seen wrapped in a cloak, blood running down his face, clearly shaken and battered but miraculously alive.
Police said the wicketkeeper-batsman, who was traveling alone in his Mercedes SUV when it crashed in northern Uttarakhand state, lost control of the vehicle when he “fell asleep”.
The car hit the median, rolled twice and caught fire, police said, while photos taken after the crash showed the vehicle’s twisted and charred remains and debris strewn across the tarmac.

The cricketer sustained multiple injuries in the accident and was first taken to a nearby hospital in Roorkee before being shifted to a more advanced facility in Dehradun.
Local media reported that the player’s trip to Roorkee would surprise his mother before the New Year.
“Rishabh has two cuts on his forehead, a torn ligament in his right knee and has also injured his right wrist, ankle and toe and sustained abrasions on his back,” said Jay Shah, secretary of the Board of Control for Cricket in India. said. a statement
“Rishabh’s condition remains stable and he has now been shifted to Max Hospital, Dehradun, where he will undergo MRI scans to determine the extent of his injuries and formulate his further treatment,” added Shah.

“He has now been transferred to a hospital in Dehradun after initial treatment at a hospital in Roorkee,” the team said on Twitter.
Uttarakhand Police Director General Ashok Kumar said, “Pant told the local police that he lost control of his car after falling asleep for a few seconds. The police are investigating the matter.”
Kumar added that Pant was rescued by villagers who witnessed the accident and pulled him out of the vehicle after allegedly smashing the windshield to escape.
Pant was part of India’s Test team that beat Bangladesh 2-0 this month.
But the accident means he is unlikely to be named in India’s T20 and ODI squads for next month’s matches against Sri Lanka.

National Cricket Academy President and former Test batsman VVS Laxman wished Pant a speedy recovery.
“I am praying for Rishabh Pant. Fortunately he is out of danger,” Laxman tweeted.
Delhi Capitals head coach Ricky Ponting also expressed concern.
“I hope you are on the mend and back on your feet soon,” the former Australian captain tweeted.
