The Netflix series Wednesday was released just over a month ago to rave reviews from critics and fans alike, telling the one-on-one story of Wednesday Addams (Jenna Ortega), the daughter of the famous Addams Family, which we have seen in films and series for several decades. This was a fun, modern take on the timeless character described by her on-screen mother (Catherine Zeta Joneslisten)) as its “little rain cloud”. We saw the character go to a boarding school for children with otherworldly abilities as he tries to solve a mystery from his parents’ past. It was a very good and funny series, and it was created by Smallville writers Al Gough and Miles Millar.

The pair recently sat down with The Hollywood Reporter to talk about the series, and they ended up drawing comparisons between Wednesday and their Smallville subject, Clark Kent. millar said:

“Wednesday seems like a one-note character, and I’ve always found Clark Kent a one-note character. He’s just kind of good, good, and Wednesday is just a flippant guy. So how do you, as a writer, take characters like that – kind of like extremes by the way – and then make them feel human? I think that was really our goal. Any writer’s goal is to create characters that feel human and real and have emotional complexity. That’s what which is a fascinating journey as you begin to develop these stories and think about how they came to be [the people they became]?”

We continued to add:

“In Clark’s case, how did he become the man he becomes, just a superhero, who is all about doing good for the world? And then Wednesday, the ride is there, we don’t know where it’s going. “adult Wednesday. So it’s really exciting in terms of how, we can tell that story. How does it evolve into a woman, and how do you do that without diluting the essence of Wednesday? Its bandwidth of change, you never want to change Wednesday You want to see her evolve, but she’s a very particular kind of person and we never want to change that.

It’s great that they’ve told the origin story of Clark Kent, and now they’re going to tell the evolution of Wednesday, who we’ve always known as a kid. The series is fantastic and we are sure that they will still have a few more seasons to tell the story of him. Season 1 is now streaming on Netflix.
