Jeremiah Green, drummer and founding member of Modest Mouse, has stage four cancer

Jeremiah Green, the founding drummer of alternative rock band Modest Mouse, has stage four cancer, bandmate Isaac Brock confirmed on social media today.

“Some of you may have heard but thought it would be good to hear the news straight from our camp,” Brock wrote on Instagram (see report below). “Jeremiah was recently diagnosed with cancer and is currently undergoing treatment. It seems to be going smoothly and making a positive difference. Jeremiah, like me, believes in the power of positive energy, so it would be great if you would be so kind as to send “good vibes” (to quote Jeremiah) to Jeremiah and his family. Thanks and love.”

He did not disclose what type of cancer the 45-year-old Green is battling.

Born March 4, 1977 in Oahu, Hawaii, Green formed Modest Mouse in Washington state with Brock and bassist Eric Judy in 1992 and remained with the band until 2012. The band’s breakthrough came with their third album in 2000, The Moon and Antarctica which has been certified gold in the US

Green took a break from Modest Mouse for over a year in 2003/04 and did not play on the 2004 Breakaway CD Good news for people who like bad news which peaked at number 18, went platinum and featured the group’s first hit single “Float On”, which topped Billboard’s Alternative Songs chart and peaked at number 68 on the Hot 100.

Green was back behind the drums for the band’s follow-up set in 2007 We were dead before the ship even sank which reached #1 on the Billboard 200 and spawned the top 10 alternative rock hits “Ocean Breathes Silly” and “Dashboard.” His 2015 album strangers to ourselves peaked at number 3, fueled by another alternative rock hit, “Lampshades on Fire”.

Modest Mouse’s latest album, 2021 the gold box, features the band’s third #1 alternative single, “We Are Between.”
