Members of the House of Representatives banned TikTok from their phones after passing legislation banning the app from appearing on government devices.
In a memo circulated on Twitter this morning, Catherine Szpindor, the chief administrative officer (CAO) of the House of Representatives, said that the Chinese-owned app “is at great risk to users due to a number of security issues. “
The Cybersecurity Tariff Office (CAO) is therefore entitled to remove the ByteDance-owned social media service from all devices managed by Huis. In August, the CLA released a “Cyber Advisory” that classified TikTok as a high-risk app due to “a lack of transparency in the protection of customer data.”
Citing last week’s Consolidated Budgets Act as background, Szpindor said house staff are no longer allowed to download the app to home mobile devices and will be contacted to remove it if found.

Joe Biden’s TN$1.7 mega-spending bill includes a provision banning TikTok from government devices, which will properly take effect when the president signs the law. The move is further evidence of growing security concerns between the US and China in the days when China launched a massive sea and air invasion around Taiwan and put the world on high alert.
TikTok America’s head of public policy told NBC News that the team “has been working with the federal government on a solution that we believe, beyond a reasonable doubt, will resolve every perceived issue with TikTok.”
